Susan provides individual therapy for mostly older adolescents and adults, ages 16 and up, as well as couples and family therapy, and has a strong background working with people struggling with eating disorders, mood disorders, and anxiety disorders.
About Susan
Susan Nilsen, MSW, LCSW, graduated with a Masters Degree in Social Work from New York University, and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in both Connecticut and New York. Having worked in the mental health field for over 25 years and as a Clinical Social Worker/Psychotherapist for 20 years, Susan has experience working in both eating disorder and general psychiatric in-patient and out-patient settings, and has worked with child and adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
Appealing to individual strengths, her theoretical approach is primarily psychodynamic, utilizing insight-oriented therapy, along with cognitive-behavioral strategies to help clients develop more adaptive coping skills.
